Agence France Press Sues Google News
Man, the French really don't like Google. AFP is suing Google News for using its images and news headlines without permission. Big deal? I'm not sure. But these kinds of cases are certainly not going to help the service get out of beta.
Best story I can find on this is here, from Ireland.

What I don't understand is why any site wouldn't want to be featured on a highly visible site. It's not like Google News is showing full content; if people like what they see AFP (in this case) publishing, they'll click through. Maybe instead they should be contacting Google for an Adwords account.
This is a "France vs. the Anglosphere" issue. French cultural influence has been declining for over a century, but French leaders (and AFP is in many ways an extension of the government there) haven't come to grips with that. Instead, they try to use regulations and lawsuits to hamper US activities where they can.
Not only Agence-France Presse but most of the British newspapers also remain ignorant of the income source of the British Sovereign.
Quite apart from her own private income there is that from The Crown Estates and lands. These produce a handsome amount from well-managed investments and properties, etc.
The ancient Crown Estates are the perquisite of the Sovereign whoever is on the throne. Since 1760 (George III's reign) they have been handed over to the Governement of the day. Just in case the monarch squandered these resources.
The Revenue from this source is called The Consolidated Fund. About one third of which is allocated to and called The Privy Purse for the maintenance of the residences of the Royal Family.
NOTE: There has been no charge yet to the taxpayer.
Nor will there be.
What remains, i.e. two thirds of this Crown Estate income is just presented to The Treasury, thus RELIEVING the taxpayer of any additional expense, or ANY EXPENSE WHATSOEVER.
Which other landlord freely gives his excess income to its government?
The taxpayer has contributed Zero.
