So, the only week away from a PC and
has been discovered a vulnerability in the
Askimet plugin for Wordpress.
The vulnerability has
been promptly fixed with the version 2.0.2, but there is no word about this release on the
Askimet blog.
That’s really
strange.

PS:
Wordpress 2.2 is out!! We will update this blog soon (and, after the
sponsored-theme issue, with a new theme).

So, as known,
Wordpress 2.2 has been delayed from its original 23rd April release date.
The reason is that the
tagging system will not be added in this release.
The developer team is analyzing a
new taxonomy system that should be more powerful than the first implementation.
We’re waiting the 2.2 to update this blog that is using at the moment the 2.0.x code.

I really didn’t know this “
Wordpress sponsored themes” issue.
Have you ever heard of them?
Our theme had a footer that said: “Our template is a modified version of MistyLook made free by
BLAH BLAH BLAH“.
Obviously there was a company name and a link instead of the
BLAH BLAH BLAH.
So, as
recently read, it turns out that this is a sponsored theme (but not stated anywhere when we choose it from WPThemes), that our site could be classified as spam by search engines, due to those links.
Good!
So now we’ve changed our footer to “Our template is a modified version of the MistyLook Wordpress theme.”, to give credits to the author, but no link.
Those are sad things.

A
notice on the Wordpress development blog says that the Wordpress 2.1.1 download package was corrupted by an hacker that added an exploitable code to the package.
They released a new version, 2.1.2, go, get it and update you blog!
It’s not fair if you cannot trust a download from an official server.
And the unanswered question is: “How could this happen?”.

Wordpress 2.1
has been released.
We’ll test it for some time before updating this blog and checking if our little hacks need some modifications.
The
citaBlog will be updated later due to its deep integration with our
main site.
