Mallory Ignition Sends Out the Bounty

Here’s both a clever and brazen promotion we received over the wire. See for yourself in the following press release that Mallory Ignition isn’t afraid to take a shot across the bow of their biggest competitor in the red box ignition battle…

MALLORY “BOUNTY” PROMOTION
Cleveland, Ohio
April 5, 2007

Wanted Dead Or Alive - Mallory Ignition has put a bounty on MSD’s head, so to speak. Mallory’s latest promo promises to pay a $25.00 - $75.00 “Bounty” if a customer buys a new Mallory Digital Ignition Box (6852M, 6853M or 685) between April 1st, 2007 and December 31st, 2007, and sends the original purchase receipt and the bar code label from the Mallory package, along with their “Dead or Alive” MSD ignition box, (postage prepaid) to: Mallory Ignition - MSD Bounty, 10601 Memphis Ave., #12, Cleveland, OH 44144.

In return, Mallory will send a a $25.00 - $75.00 Bounty check, depending on MSD box returned: $25.00 Bounty for MSD 6200 & 6300, $50.00 Bounty for MSD 6320 & 6420, or $75.00 Bounty for MSD 6350, 6462 & 6520.

Compared side by side, the Mallory 6A, 6AL, and 6AL2 have the same wire color coding and mounting pattern as MSD’s 6A and 6AL analog ignitions for simple replacement. However, the Mallory 6AL Ignition has 1 stage of rev-limiting that requires NO chips for adjustment – unlike the MSD 6AL that requires extra-cost chips for specific RPM settings. The Mallory 6A, 6AL and 6AL2 ignitions also have 19% more spark energy, 10% more primary output voltage and 40% lower energy draw than comparable MSD boxes for maximum performance and reliability.

See a complete product comparison of Mallory vs. MSD ignition boxes.

Redemptions must be submitted by January 31st, 2008. The dead or alive MSD boxes become the property of Mallory Racing and will NOT be returned. MSD is a registered trademark of Autotronic Controls Corporation. Both the use of MSD and the likeness of the MSD ignition box are used for comparative reference only. Void where prohibited.

I’ll Have a Fire Extinguisher on Payday

Here’s a great story we pulled from the FordMuscle Garage Forum, another testimonial that deserves some homepage time. Shortly after reading this candid confession from FordMuscle subscriber “Rancheroo”, I moved the golfbag in my own garage to the utility shed. Give some credit to “Rancheroo” (Rick) for making his lesson public so we can all be a bit safer when welding at home. Here it is.

I’ll have a fire extinguisher on payday. Until then, no more welding. On Saturday I was trying to tack a washer onto a clamp (long story) . The clamp had some sort of plating on it. I’m not sure if it was chrome or not. It looked about like the finish that you’d see on a Craftsman wrench.

Anyway, while trying to tack this washer onto the clamp, I noticed these balls of molten metal SHOOTING, not just falling, but SHOOTING all over the damn place. I really had to hold the torch in the piece for a long time to get the washer tacked in place with fireballs flying all over the place.

Once I flipped my shield up, I noticed my golf bag was on FIRE. I reached over three bikes, grabbed it, threw it into the back yard & hosed it down. One of these fireballs dropped into the bottom of my golf bag & caught all kinds of stuff on fire.

I now have a large hole in the bottom of my bag and several melted grips. Glad I didn’t burn the house down and especially glad I hadn’t re-gripped my clubs yet.

All kidding aside, it’s STUPID to be welding with flamables within 10 feet. Them fireballs was just a flying off that plating!

$23,000 a day…

Ford CEO…is how much Ford’s new CEO Alan Mulally made in his first four months on the job. Do the math, that is a mere $28.8 million dollars. Must be nice considering Ford posted losses of $12.7 billion dollars last year!

Here is the full story from CNNMoney.com

Struggling Ford Motor Co., which posted a record $12.7 billion net loss in 2006, gave its new CEO Alan Mulally $28 million for four months on the job, according to the company’s proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday.

The Ford (Charts) pay package for Mulally comes on top of the $7.4 million that aerospace company Boeing (Charts) had previously reported paying him for his eight months running that company’s commercial aircraft unit before he made the move to Ford at the beginning of September.

Mulally’s pay package at Ford included a $7.5 million hiring bonus, as well as $11 million that Ford described as an offset for forfeited performance and stock option awards at Boeing. In addition he received $55,469 for relocation costs and temporary housing.

New 5.0L Computer Distributor From Performance Distributors

Performance Distributors’ new 5.0 Computer Distributor is now available for 5.0L EFI applications. Built with a Full Length Oil Impregnated Bushing, the unit improves shaft rotation and magnetic pick-up coil signals. The full length bushing also assures durability, as stock distributors only have one upper bushing in the housing. A very nice engine appearance is guaranteed as the distributor is powder coated in “Ford Blue.” Also available without the powder coating.

This unit is ideal for those who want the “stock look” because Motorcraft distributor housings are used and it even says “Motorcraft” on the side of the housing. The Dyna-Module has more electronic dwell time calibrated into it, allowing your coil to saturate further. The additional coil saturation time provides a more intense spark.

To top it off, a heavy duty brass terminal cap and rotor are used to maximize conductivity.
